In case you missed it, you probably haven’t been online for the last few months, but the Old Spice Guy ‘The Man Your Man Could Smell Like’ campaign is one of the most successful online viral campaigns to date.

With great success comes multiple parodies. That’s exactly what happened with the Old Spice campaign. After the campaign became such a success the parodies kept popping up.

One of the first parodies I saw was a failed one by Cisco. Since that one, many more have popped up. Since I keep seeing more and more of the Old Spice related videos pop-up I decide to share the two latest ones with you.

Looking for a quick and easy way to accept credit card payments from a mobile phone? Check out Square, an iPhone app that does just that.Square: Accept payments everywhere

I came across an interesting video today on CNN Money. It was about a hot dog truck owner that decided to use Square, an iPhone app that enables it’s users to accept card payments anywhere.

Basically what it is is an app on your phone and a very small card reader that plugs into the headphone jack of your phone. You can than type in the amount you want to charge, swipe the card, have the person sign for it (with their finger) on the phone and that’s it. You can even take a picture of the product you’re selling as well as email a receipt to the client.

In the video the owner of the hot dog truck mentioned that people even just like to come and buy a hot dog, just to pay it through the iPhone app. She says that her sales increased by about 12% since she started using the Square app.

Check out the video below to see how the app is used at the hot dog truck.

London-based fashion company CuteCircuit has designed the M-Dress (Mobile Phone Dress), a little black dress that doubles as a mobile phone and lets wearers make and receive calls.

The dress is rigged up with gesture recognition software which allows users to pick up a call by raising their hand to their ear. When finished with the phone call users can just drop their hand down again and the call will end.

Viral Twitter Movie Trailer

It’s Viral Friday! Mostly because it’s Friday and I decided to write about a viral video I came across recently 🙂

A video of the “Twitter Movie Trailer” has gone viral lately. The trailer tells the story of Twitter co-founders Jack Dorsey, Ev Williams and Biz Stone.

The video is actually a parody of the upcoming Facebook movie. After the movie was announced many parodies popped up and this one is definitely one of my favorites.

There’s a pretty girl hanging around on Chatroulette at the moment scaring people. The girl is part of a campaign to promote the latest horror movie ‘The Last Exorcism’.

For those of you that don’t know, Chatroulette is a website that pairs random strangers from around the world together for webcam-based conversations (source: Wikipedia).

Meeting people on Chatroulette can be fun, but when you meet this girl, it might not be so much fun anymore. I’ve seen the videos and I wasn’t really scared by the girl, but I loved the flabbergasted reactions of the people she was chatting with.

Map of the world according to Social Media Networks

social network world map 2010
The people of marketing firm Flowtown created a new world map called “2010 Social Networking Map“.
The map was inspired by XKCD’s “Map of Online Communities” an image that went viral for awhile.
I like the fact that they’ve taken the image all the way, including names of the oceans and naming MySpace and Wikipedia ‘ Former Kingdom of MySpace’  and ‘United Territories of Wikimedia’. Google ofcourse is called ‘ Empire of Google’. Tjongolongo! How fun is that!

How to kill an idea

kill an idea, cartoon, illustration
Art director Scott Campbell aka Scott C has found some great ways to visualise ‘how to kill an idea’. I think it’s great how he managed to pick all different kind of subjects to represent killing an idea. My favourite is the one with Little Red Riding Hood.

Why Cisco’s Old Spice copycat campaign failed

cisco, old spice guy, copy

Cisco tried to cash in on the viral succes the Old Spice Guy campaign had lately. Instead of using a hot guy they used dorky Ted from Accounting.

According to Doug Webster of the Cisco Service Provider Marketing Team, they were so ‘so impressed with Old Spice’s social media project’ they thought it would be a great way to show the ‘awesome power ‘ of one of their routers. I like the sarcasm in the video, but still the entire campaign just didn’t do it for me.
